If you are looking for a dreamy Northern California vacation spot, the Mendocino coast is where you want to be.
The Mendocino Coast, a breathtaking stretch of Northern California's coastline, is renowned for its rugged cliffs, sweeping ocean views, and pristine natural beauty. This scenic region is characterized by its dramatic seascapes, where the Pacific Ocean meets towering redwood forests and rolling hills. Visitors are captivated by the area's picturesque beaches, hidden coves, and the serene Mendocino Headlands State Park, offering ample opportunities for hiking, wildlife watching, and exploring tidal pools. The quaint coastal towns, such as Mendocino and Fort Bragg, add to the charm with their Victorian architecture, art galleries, and welcoming community vibe. We loved meandering the small town of Mendocino and enjoyed supporting and chatting with their owner-run small businesses. If you have time, we’d also recommend riding the infamous Skunk Train out of Fort Bragg.
The perfect place to soak in all of the splendor of the Mendocino coast is the charming Little River Inn. The Little River Inn, nestled along the stunning Mendocino Coast, is a historic and charming destination that offers a quintessential Northern California retreat. Established in 1939, this family-owned inn seamlessly blends classic Victorian elegance with modern comforts, providing guests with a warm and inviting atmosphere. Perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the inn boasts spectacular views, well-manicured gardens, and cozy accommodations, many of which feature private decks and fireplaces. Guests can indulge in the inn's fine dining restaurant, renowned for its fresh, locally-sourced cuisine, or enjoy a round of golf on the scenic nine-hole course. We thoroughly enjoyed eating dinner at the restaurant and having our breakfast delivered to our cottage.
We had the pleasure of being hosted at Rosie’s Cottage at the Little River Inn. It is the inn’s most popular accommodation for families as it is its own stand alone cottage and boasts two bedrooms. The front balcony has a jacuzzi and four large rocking chairs overlooking the ocean. There is also a back porch with an enclosed area for a dog to roam and play. Inside has an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings with skylights. There is a large living area with a mini-kitchen, a gas fireplace, and a beautiful view of the ocean. There are two bedrooms, and one big bathroom with two sinks and a shower and bath tub. It is all so bright and secluded with no need to ever close the curtains. It truly felt like a home away from home.
The Little River Inn and the Mendocino Coast were nothing short of magical. You cannot beat the views and vibe of the Mendocino Coast. It’s proximity to San Francisco and the Redwoods, make it a perfect road trip location or final destination. With its rich history, stunning location, and exceptional amenities, the Little River Inn epitomizes the charm and beauty of the Mendocino Coast, making it an ideal destination for relaxation and rejuvenation. Rich in history and natural splendor, the Mendocino Coast provides a tranquil retreat for those seeking solace and inspiration from the unspoiled beauty of the California coast.
